Popular Underground Magazine Review

05 Mar 2007

"... Despite the small number of songs, Bixler comes out swinging with huge sounding tracks. It’s obvious that this infectious EP is just the beginning of something much larger. With a foundation that rests almost entirely on pop-rock and pop-punk, yes Bixler is keeping it alive..."

The above blurb is from Adam K. Zakroczymski III, Senior Editor / Founder of Popular Underground Magazine. He recently published a review of our latest EP. Click here to read the full review.

Well we just got back from the final listen. Aaron spent the last several days mixing, re-mixing, and mastering the songs. They sound absolutely unbelievable. Aaron is the single most talented producer any of us have ever known, and it has been a pleasure to work with him. Tonight, a small group of close friends and family joined us for the final listen, and the response was overwhelmingly positive. It is hard to believe this whole process started less than a month ago.

There are so many exciting things on the horizon, that we can't wait to share with you, but that will all come in due time. Don't worry, as soon as you are able to hear the new songs we will let you know. Hang tight and thanks for all of your support, and encouragement. We look forward to seeing you a show.

March 2, 2006
Vocals are finished. Lee knocked out all of the lead vocals, and Cully handled all of the backing vocals this time around. Who knew Cully could sing so well? We did...and soon you will know what we are talking about. Tomorrow Dave will record the solo from Loser's Day Parade and then it is on to the mixing phase. As a group, we could not be more proud of how these songs are turning out. Aaron has really done a great job as usual, and he has pushed us harder than we thought we could have been pushed. We are excited for everyone to hear the finished product.

February 28, 2006
As I am typing this I cannot get over how Lee sang his heart out on the first two songs. In all seriousness, he sounds better than he has ever sounded. It is very gratifying to realize that he sounds so good, simply because he is just continually getting better as a singer. We didn't use pro-tools, we didn't have to doctor his voice, or hide behind some weird filters. He just sang until he felt it was perfect, and we couldn't be more pleased. Tonight, he will be singing the last song (at least for these sessions). Check back soon for more updates.

February 26, 2006
Well I know we were expecting to start vocals several days ago, and in fact planned to be finished and mixing things by now, but sometimes life has other plans. Aaron had some things come up this week, so we decided it would be best to push vocals off a few days. The plan is to do one song a day for the next three days and then lay down all of the harmonies, etc. It should be good.

February 22, 2006
Sorry that we have not been updating this page daily, but things have been pretty hectic. Since the last post, Dave finished all of his guitar work except for a solo on Loser's Day Parade. He will go in sometime, probably after vocals are finished to knock that out. The scratch solo sounds really amazing, but Aaron and Dave wanted to take some time to get the sound exactly how they wanted. Tomorrow should see the beginning of vocals.

February 19, 2006
Another day, another song down. Dave has spent the last couple of days laying down all of his guitar work on two of the new songs. Although today was spent recording some of his typical parts, a fair amount of time was spent experimenting with Moog sounds, piano, and some other craziness. Aaron and Dave also spent some time just recording some crazy noises with various guitars, pedals, and sound configurations. Who knows if any of today's stuff will make the final mix but it sure was cool.

February 17, 2006
Well I know it has been several days since the last update. Aaron took a couple of days to work on several other projects he is involved with, as well as working on mixing down some of the drums and guitars recorded thus far. Today Dave knocked out most of his guitar work on one of the songs and will head back tomorrow to work on another. Due to everyone's crazy schedules right now, the next few days will be spent on guitars, so it will probably be later this weekend or early next week before Lee starts recording vocals. We will keep you posted though. Check back soon.

February 14, 2006
Happy Valentine's Day. Well, while most of you were eating a romantic dinner with your special someone, we were slaving away in the studio for your listening pleasure. Actually, because of our recording schedule, our dates were gracious enough to let us celebrate Valentine's yesterday. Today, Lee laid down most of his guitar parts on the new songs. Today was the first time, we got to hear Cully's drum tracks in their entirety, and man the 8 hours spent on getting drums sounds was really worth it. Lee's guitar sounds were sounding equally amazing. For those of you who were stoked by the sounds on our Moving On EP, you will be blown away by the sounds Aaron is helping us get on the new tunes. Anyways, more to come soon.

February 11, 2006
as promised...and honestly much sooner than any of us anticipated, we have entered the studio. Once again, Aaron Sain is at the helm as far as production goes. This time we are actually recording in a different studio, that is quite sweet might I add. The other day as Cully was laying down drums, right next to his kit was a piano that Ray Charles recorded an album on. That is not an everyday thing, but pretty rad. We have not decided what we will do with the new stuff just yet...EP.....LP...etc. When we know, you will know, and we promise to post some of the new stuff as soon as we believe it is ready for you to hear. Anyways, thanks for hanging in there with us during the long dry spells over the past two years. We look forward to rocking your faces off again soon.

February 8, 2006
tracking drums today for the new songs... so far, we're 5hrs into the session and we're still getting drum sounds. to this point, their rockin' my world, but when were done... man, they're gonna rock. think we're gonna tackle on and on first, then move on to falling... more to come.
